Magnetic field lines

A simple loop

File: field lines loop.biot

This file shows how to calculate magnetic field lines of a simple loop in two ways: using the magnetic vector potential (valid for axially symmetric systems) and using the Tracer object. In the figure, the red lines are the magnetic vector potential field lines, and the green line is the field line traced by the Tracer object.

Helmholtz coil

File: field lines Helmholtz.biot

This file shows how to calculate magnetic field lines using the magnetic vector potential in such a way that the field line spacing is uniform if the magnetic field is. The two loops are a Helmholtz coil.

Complicated field lines

File: field lines bent loop.biot

This file demonstrates how the magnetic field lines of a system that is not axisymmetric are, in general, complicated. The conductor is merely a square loop bent out of its plane. The field line is calculated by a Tracer object, that uses the Runge-Kutta method.
